Decleration: Dreams

A concept that intrigues me (and the one I'm choosing to study for the semester) is the concept of Dreams. Basically, dreams are the places our minds wander when we sleep. I love dreams; I love how they leave you wondering what they mean. The subconscious mystifies me and I'm really excited to be able to spend the rest of the year becoming more familiar with it. Artwork around dreams can be beautiful, disturbing, and incredibly interesting. Dreams can be so abstract; they have no boundaries or limits. Nothing has to make sense or have an explanation - that's the beauty of it, you get to decipher your own dreams. I also believe that some people see things in dreams like premonitions that their minds need them to see ahead of time. I hope dreams are something I can pursue even after this class, and I'm sure I will.

I love that you chose the concept of dreams. I agree with you on how it's interesting how they leave you wondering what they actually mean. Great concept. :)

My Dream by MB

"Throughout my entire childhood I had the same dream every night. I would wake up (in my dream) unable to move or yell for help. I would lay helpless in my cold bed for five minutes as I heard breathing in my closet at the foot of my bed, and because I had this every night, I knew what was coming. The second that night demon stepped out of my closet; I regained control and ran, but could never open my door to get out. I spent years focusing before bed on happy things trying to block this dream from my mind, but I came to realize that it was a direct result of my actual life. I was over stressing about school, studying countless hours for even the simplest quiz, thinking I was not worthy of my life if I didn't push myself to the fullest. I felt helpless, and this was portrayed in my dreams every night. Somehow I remember the last time I had that dream. I lay in my bed, my closet door squeaked open, and out stepped the creature. I proceeded to loom into its eyes, and I had been having this dream fir so long, I actually knew what it was while in the dream. I said to it "you’re just a dream. You can’t hurt me". That was the last nightmare I have ever had, and will be. I now know that the only way to actually live life is to kick back and enjoy every minute of it. You are never helpless; there is always an internal strength within you that will surface when the time is right."

"I was on a small floating island made of reeds and grass in the middle of the ocean. I don't remember much, but the reed-raft was floating with the water. I remember looking off into the distance and seeing dark menacing storm clouds looming on the horizon. I remember being filled with fear. Not sharp, sudden fear like you get when you're about to get in a car accident or fall off a ladder. It was a growing fear that seeped into the smallest corners of my mind. I’m not sure what exactly it meant, but I assume it had something to do with the unknown or some upcoming event in my life I was scared or nervous about."

"My favorite dream was one where I was flying. It felt so real, and I could see everything so clearly. It was fun, free, and probably the happiest I’ve every felt. I was the size of a bird and I could dart and shoot across yards; and from tree to tree I could fly faster than a rocket. Everything was so green and cool, it almost looked fake it was so beautiful. My head was spinning, taking my body on an adventure. It was definitely a great feeling, but I started to fall suddenly which shocked me into waking up. I was sad but relieved when I woke up because it was such a good dream, but the ending was more of a nightmare. I think I remember this dream because the feeling “flying” gave me was so real, and I could almost feel myself hit the bed when I “fell”. I wish I more dreams like this one."

"In one dream I had awhile back I was given a special version of the book Alice in Wonderland in my English class. As soon as I got the book some creepy man started following me around and all I knew was that he was trying to steal it and I couldn’t let him take it. He kept following me around and then I was at the farm, but in one of the horses’ areas there was a random car. I was standing by the car and he showed up, and I could tell he was going to try to take the book from me. so I got in the car and hid the book under the front seat, but them he was coming closer so I jumped out. I was terrified standing next to the car as he was coming closer, then I told him if her came any closer I would scream, and then started to open my mouth. he stopped so I didn’t scream, but then he started coming closer again so I screamed as loud as I could in the dream. But I also ended up screaming wicked loud in real life."
